What is the Operation Card?

The operation card is an official document issued by the General Authority of Transport to practice a specific commercial activity, and it represents a mandatory legal license to operate vehicles. The operation card fees from the Ministry of Transport are 100 SAR for establishments and 90 SAR for individuals, whether for general or private transport.

Types of Operation Cards

Operation card types vary depending on the vehicle's activity and the purpose it will serve:

General transport card

  • Includes vehicles that transport goods or passengers in transport and logistics companies.
  • Full integration with the Wasul platform via tracking device is required to monitor weights, speeds, and locations in real time.

Private transport card

  • For the company's own vehicles only, such as product distribution trucks for a factory or equipment transport for a contracting company.
  • Requires linking the tracking device with the Transport Authority.

Which Vehicles Need an Operation Card?

Vehicles that need an operation card according to activity type are:

Passenger transport vehicles

Including public buses within and between cities, international buses, and educational transport vehicles.

Taxi vehicles

In three types: airport taxi, public taxi, and private taxi.

Freight transport vehicles

Including heavy trucks and light freight transport, whether for public or private transport.

Rental vehicles

Including private car rental (traditional or electric), truck rental, and bus rental.

Specialized transport vehicles

Such as tourist buses and guided transport.

Vehicle towing and transport

Designated for transporting broken down and damaged vehicles.

Vehicles need an operation card if their total weight is 3.5 tons or more within the freight transport category, or less than 3.5 tons if they fall within the light transport category.

The operation card is valid for one year from the date of issuance, and you can submit a renewal request within 30 days before expiry.

What data does the operation card contain?

The operation card contains vehicle data such as the license plate number, chassis number, vehicle category, owner and establishment name, and the type of licensed activity.

Is issuing a private transport operation card different from a general transport one?

When issuing a private transport operation card, you will need to meet the same conditions and requirements, with only the type of license differing in the required documents. It also requires installing a tracking device on the vehicles and having them approved by the Transport Authority.

What are the requirements for issuing a driver card?

Three conditions must be met: obtaining a valid general driving license, having the driver's data linked to the establishment's unified ID number, and linking the driver's data with the vehicle on the Wasul platform.

Can I submit multiple vehicles in the same request?

Yes, the request form allows you to enter or upload data for more than one vehicle.
